ISO Secretary General visits the IAS Laboratory

The Secretary General of the International Organization Standardization (ISO), Mr. Rob Steel, visited the Institute of Applied Sciences (IAS) Analytical Laboratory on Monday, 17th October, 2011, as part of his two-day visit to Fiji. The purpose of the visit to Fiji was to discuss how international standards help trade and how Fiji is to be more involved in international standards formulation particularly for the fishing, mining and timber industries.

The IAS Laboratory, accredited to the standard ISO 17025,
is the only accredited food and water physical, chemical & microbiological testing laboratory in the South-West Pacific and its internationally accredited results have allow acceptance of Fiji products in the international export markets.  The Secretary-General acknowledged the role that IAS plays in the country and region in terms of trade and encouraged IAS to participate along with other stakeholders in the creation of standards.
