Assesssing the reliability of community indicator species as a means of measuring MPA effectiveness.
An investigation of the chemistry of the Fiji marine invertebrates yielded new natural products and interesting changes in the production of the metabolites.
“Assessing MPA effectiveness through studying the relative abundance of community indicator populations over time” is the crux of my research. The main objective of this work, is to try and find out if the population of community indicator species (target species of fishes, invertebrates and corals) are giving us a true picture of the ecological health of local qoliqoli (fishing grounds). This research is a case study of the Korolevuiwai qoliqoli on the Coral Coast of Southern Viti levu, Fiji.
